Mobilisation and Manipulations

Joint mobilizations and manipulations are used to achieve full and pain free movement at a particular joint. It may vary from small, gentle, to forceful activity depending upon the stiffness of the joint.

Joint manipulation is twisting or moving a joint forcefully to the end range and giving a high velocity thrust. This sometimes produces a click or pop sound, which is indicative of release of pressure in the joint.

Manipulation is performed in a well-mannered way to rule out the negative impacts. It is not performed in patients with severe muscle spasm or anxiety.

Mobilisation is the small, rhythmic and passive movements provided in specific techniques to achieve the full and pain free range of a particular area. This is provided in various grades or degrees depending upon the pain and stiffness of the joints. Mobilisation is not necessary to give an end range of motion.
