Physiotherapy (also known as Physical Therapy as referred to by the WCPT) is a clinical health profession aiming to restore people’s health and improve the quality of life and movement disorders. Physiotherapy is provided by physical therapists who promote, maintain and restore health through physical examination, diagnosis, prognosis, physical intervention, patient education, rehabilitation, disease prevention and health promotion.

 Physiotherapist uses evidence based natural methods; such as exercises, manual therapies, Taping, Dry Needling, Cupping therapy, Mechanical devices i.e. Traction , electrical modalities including heat, cold, sound waves, radiations etc. Physiotherapists are highly skilled in treating conditions related to Orthopaedics, Sports, Ergonomics, Spinal Injury, Rehabilitation, Neurological Disorders and many more.

A Physiotherapist is a medical professional who treats your pain and restores your wellbeing so that you can perform and enjoy your chosen work, sports and everyday activities. Physiotherapists use their expert knowledge and highly specialised skills to help restore your aching, stiff and dysfunctional muscles & joint back to health.

A Physiotherapist must have a university level degree study in medical science subjects such as anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and exercise. Apart from their studies, a Physiotherapist is also trained in different types of treatment techniques and the learning of these new techniques goes throughout the professional carrier.

In India, it’s mandatory for all Physiotherapists to register themselves with the Physiotherapy Council. One cannot call themselves a physiotherapist if they are not suitably qualified and registered with the Council.

Orthopaedic Physiotherapy

Orthopaedic physiotherapy is a specialized branch of physiotherapy dealing with the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of the injuries or problems associated with the musculoskeletal system. A physiotherapist with specialisation in orthopaedic physiotherapy will do a compulsory clinical assessment to find the root cause of the problem, then plan a suitable physiotherapy treatment and guide the patients to prevent future complications.

Neurological Physiotherapy

Neuro Physiotherapy, also known as neurological physiotherapy, is a specialized branch of physiotherapy dealing with the assessment and treatment of patients with neurological disorders. These disorders are directly concerned with the central nervous system (CNS) which include the brain, spinal cord and nerves in the body. These conditions have a huge impact on day to day activities and body functions.

Sports Physiotherapy

Sports Physiotherapy is a specialised field in Physiotherapy which helps the athletes as well as casual players who suffered from an injury or ongoing problems. It involves thoroughly assessing the injured person, setting a treatment plan, designing a rehabilitation protocol and preventing future injuries. A sports physiotherapist manages the injury caused during sports activity, which may be acute or chronic or any post-operative management.

It is the branch of physiotherapy mainly focussed on assessment and treatments of the children with movement or movement- based disorder in children from 0-18 years.These disorders may be concerned with musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, developmental, and respiratory systems of the children. Physiotherapists know that children are very different from adults and require different skills and approaches to treat them.

Geriatric Physiotherapy is the branch which involves working with the aged persons.
